Donut Box Craft
Welcome to the first craft project as part of my recycled craft series for big and small humans this winter! Anyone else accumulate a lot of cardboard and trash leading up to the holiday season? Just me? I have some ways to turn that trash into treasure! Each craft will feature (mostly) recycled materials and things you may have in and around your house. These crafts are great for adults and kids (supervised) alike. You can even gift them as homemade presents!
The first craft project is a donut box memory game. I love making cardboard into food. I think it harkens back to my childhood and my favorite toys to play with…fake food!
This craft is recommended for small humans 12+ and supervised because of hot glue, hard to cut through materials, and exacto knife.
Materials:
Scissors
Glue (if using cardboard, hot glue works best!)
Cardboard, tagboard, or paper
Circular item to trace
Paint
Clear plastic wrapping - a small sheet will do
Exacto knife
Ruler
Step 1:
Cut out a 9” x 7” (or whatever size you’d like!) cardboard rectangle and follow steps on tutorial (or tagboard or paper). This Youtube tutorial lists out making the box step by step! Rather than folding the paper to create the middle lines, I measured out 3.5” from each side to find the middle lines. My ruler is 1.5” in width
Step 2:
Identify the top of the box before assembling. Cut out window and donut shape for the clear top portion.
Step 3:
Lightly score with an exacto knife along the lines marked out to fold the box if using cardboard. This will help make it easier to fold when you assemble the box.
Step 4:
Cut out the clear plastic rectangle and glue to the inside of the cutout
Step 5:
Assemble the box per the instructions in the tutorial. I glue the side flaps on the inside for a neater outside of the box.
Step 6:
Paint and decorate the box to how you see fit!
Creating the donuts:
Using the small circular tracing object, trace 12 circles and cut out. Paint pairs of matching donuts
